Yew Tree Cottage was listed by English Heritage in August 1987 as Grade II, of special interest. It dates from the 18th century and is of timber-framed construction beneath pebbledash render. There is some brickwork at the front. The cottage comprises two storeys beneath an old clay tiled roof. The porch is 20th century.

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. Like most of the county, Wootton was largely assessed in 1927 and the valuer visiting 67 Cause End Road [DV1/C50/12] found that it was owned and occupied by S. G. Locke (this is annotated to “Simpson” by a later hand).

Accommodation comprised a living room, a front room, a kitchen and a scullery (a later hand has amended this to two reception rooms and a kitchen) with three bedrooms above (annotated by the later hand to three bedrooms and a bathroom with hot and cold water). A large barn and an earth closet stood outside and water came from a well. The later hand has added a corrugated iron shed “at side”. The valuer commented: “fair cottage, good garden”.
