Court Roll 1577

This document is held by Essex Record Office ref.D/DP M1219.

4th November 1577

View of Frankpledge of the Lord King, with Court Baron of John Petre, knight.

There are no changes of tenancy or punishments of public order offences in the following three brief records. It is clear that at least one was written out in advance and used as a register of attendance. The records are untidy with crossings out and loose pages with no page numbers.

The transcription of this roll is incomplete because it was so difficult to read. It contains the names of 18 sworn men and 11 tithing men. Common fines, called Head Silver and Land Silver are paid and explanations of how they were calculated are given.
