Southview Cottage was listed by the former Department of Environment in August 1983 as Grade II, of special interest. The cottage is thought to date from the 18th century and is built of cob, a mixture of clay, lime and straw or similar bonding agent, covered in roughcast and colour-washed. The cottage has a thatched roof and comprises one storey and attics. There are 20th century extensions at both gable ends.

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. The valuer visiting the cottage [DV1/C213/53] foud that it was owned by Mrs R Cunnington and in occupation of E Freeman at a rent of £4 per annum. The building comprised a living room, a kitchen and two bedrooms with two brick and tiled store barns outside.
