16 Ickwell Green was listed by the former Department of Environment in March 1985 as Grade II, of special interest. The department dated the house to the 18th century. It is built of colour washed roughcast render over a timber frame, has a thatched roof, one storey and attics, with a one storey addition to left hand over which
the roof is hipped.

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. Ickwell was assessed in 1927 and the valuer visiting 16 Ickwell Green [DV1/C44/85] found it owned and occupied by George Sharpe.

The cottage stood in just over half an acre and accommodation comprised a living room, kitchen and scullery with two bedrooms above. The valuer commented: “In very poor repair”. A coal shed, an earth closet and a washhouse stood outside. There was a large garden and water came from an outside tap.
