32 London Road was listed by the former Department of Environment in December 1979 as Grade II, of special interest. The department dated the property to the mid 19th century. It is built of brick which used to be whitewashed but is no longer so (see the photograph above). It comprises two storeys beneath a slate roof and has modillioned brick eaves.

The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. Sandy, like most of the county, was assessed in 1927 and the valuer visiting 32 London Road [DV1/C29/71] found it owned and occupied by decorator Percy J. Rainbow.

The brick and slate detached property comprised two living rooms, a kitchen, a scullery and a pantry with two bedrooms and a bathroom above. A brick and slated w. c. measuring 6 feet 3 inches by 3 feet 3 inches and an old timber and tiled barn lay outside. There was also a “Temporary Wooden Shed used as workshop” measuring 9 feet by 14 feet. The valuer commented: “Nice, double-fronted, stands back”.
