Templefield Lower School Flitwick

In the 1970s local education authority Bedfordshire County Council introduced comprehensive education in which no school took pupils based on their ability, but rather on their geographical location. At the same time a three-tier school system was brought in - lower schools for children aged 4 to 9, middle schools for those aged 9 to 13 and upper schools for students aged 13 to 18.

Templefield Lower School was built by the local education authority in the early 1980s in Malham Close, off Steppingley Road, as the population of Flitwick grew. Woodland Middle School was built at the same time on an adjoining site.

In 2009 Bedfordshire County Council was abolished and its role as local education authority for Flitwick was taken by the new unitary council - Central Bedfordshire.
