Dunstable is an ancient parish in the south of the county to the west of Luton. It was founded by King Henry I on land which was originally part of the parish of Houghton Regis. Dunstable was a Borough from 12th to 16th Centuries and a Municipal Borough from 1864 to 1974. In 1907 the Municipal Borough was extended by the addition of part of Civil Parish of Houghton Regis. The ecclesiastical parish of Dunstable includes the Districts of St.Augustine, St.Fremund and St.Peter (The Priory).
