The Rating and Valuation Act 1925 specified that every building and piece of land in the country was to be assessed to determine its rateable value. Cardington, like most of the county, was assessed in 1927 and the valuer visiting the Whitbread Estate houses in Harrowden Lane [DV1/C116/112-121] found that there were ten of them, numbered 260 to 269 Harrowden Lane.

The brick and tiled houses were occupied as follows:

  • 260: S. Billingham at a rent of £7/16/- per annum; parlour; living room; scullery; two bedrooms;
  • 261: W. J. Cowley at a rent of £5/5/2 per half year; parlour; two kitchens; two bedrooms;
  • 262: Mrs. Summerfield at a rent of £3/8/10 per half year: living room; kitchen; scullery; two bedrooms. A Mrs. Mary Ann Summerfield was Clerk to the Parish Council in 1928;
  • 263: C. Keep at a rent of £3/8/4 per half year: parlour; living room; kitchen; two bedrooms;
  • 264: G. Parrott at a rent of £3/9/1 per half year: living room; kitchen; pantry; two bedrooms;
  • 265: T. Cox at a rent of £3/9/2 per half year: living room; kitchen; pantry; two bedrooms;
  • 266: A. Bryan at a rent of £3/8/4 per half year: parlour; living room; kitchen; two bedrooms;
  • 267: A. Houghton at a rent of £3/9/2 per half year: living room; kitchen; pantry; two bedrooms;
  • 268: M. Parrott at a rent of £3/8/6 per half year: parlour; living room; scullery; two bedrooms;
  • 269: A. Brooks at a rent of £3/9/2 per half year: parlour; living room; scullery; two bedrooms.
