Register of Young Persons Hired as Servants
Young people who entered the Bedford Poor Law Union workhouse were hired out as servants. This was intended to teach them a trade and means of supporting themselves.
The Register covers the years 1851 to c.1880. Gives date of hiring; master's name, trade and residence; remarks. Also loose sheets at front of register giving similar information 1873 - 1878 but not identical to the register.
