Barton-le-Clay, also known as Barton in the Clay or Barton-le-Cley, is an ancient parish in the south-east of Bedfordshire on the Hertfordshire border. The church and surrounding buildings at Church End were originally a separate hamlet but have now become part of the village. Bedfordshire Archives holds many documents relating to the parish; a search of our online catalogue with Barton-le-Clay as the subject returns over 2600 items. Significant collections for researching people or places in Barton-le-Clay include: 

  • P21: Records for the parish of St Nicholas, Barton-le-Clay, including (among other items): registers of baptisms, marriages and burials; records relating to church property; vestry books accounts of overseers of the poor; records of local charities; parish magazines
